The Curse of Coal

In 2012, Turkey decided to bet on coal in the name of an unlikely energy independence. The following damages are still untold, in terms of economy and environmental, social and human impacts. In South-West Anatolia, the three aged Yatagan, Yenikoy and Kemerkoy coal-fired plants summarize the effects of the disaster above all over local rural communities, while the loans which guarantee the operations – mostly from abroad – will be probably never paid back.
Written and narrated by Dino Buonaiuto. Directed and edited by Imre Azen. A co-production by Kibrit Film and Re:Common.
