In the framework of Attac’s European Summer University which will be held in Paris next August from the 19th to the 23rd of August, Re:Common is organising a seminar titled: “From the paradigm of large dams and mega water infrastructures to the financialisation of the water as a commodity – new challenges and experiences of resistance all over the world”. The seminar will consist in three afternoon sessions, which will be held on the 20, 21 and 22 of august.
The seminar, organized in collaboration with the Brazilian Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB) and the European Water Movement, aims to link the large dams with the ongoing process of financialisation of water, and it will focus on three key issues: 1) the privatization and commodification of water in Europe (utilities, referendum, etc.); 2) the financialisation of hydroelectric projects (especially in Latin America) and the tools and mechanisms to do so (i.e. CDM and more); 2) the current process of financialisation of water, its impacts on the global south and local experiences of resistance.
The event has been organised with the financial assistance of the European Union.
